The green microgrid project powers NTPC’s Energy Technology Research Alliance (NETRA) campus using a solar PV power generation system coupled with a hydrogen power storage system.
Ohmium International, a green hydrogen company that designs, manufactures, and deploys proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, and Spirare Energy, a provider of on-site energy generation systems, have announced the successful production of green hydrogen at a green microgrid pilot project for NTPC’s Energy Technology Research Alliance (NETRA) campus.
The solar-hydrogen microgrid sustainably powers the NTPC NETRA campus in New Delhi and is designed to provide continuous power by using a solar PV power generation system coupled with a hydrogen power storage system. A solar array provides green power to the microgrid and the Ohmium PEM electrolyzer system. The Ohmium system uses solar power to break water into hydrogen and oxygen. The green hydrogen produced so is stored on-site. When electricity is needed, the stored hydrogen is converted back into power using fuel cells.
Ohmium designs, manufactures, and deploys modular, scalable PEM electrolyzers. Headquartered in the United States with manufacturing facilities in India and operations worldwide, Ohmium has a global green hydrogen project pipeline exceeding 2 GW across three continents. In 2023, Ohmium raised $250 Million in Series C financing, led by TPG Rise Climate. In July 2024, the company launched its Gigafactory in Bangalore, India.
